'04 TB

Postby Dace on Mon Mar 24, 2008 4:59 am

We just purchased a used '04 TB w/40K on he clock. We are having issues with the IPC (instrument cluster) losing power. We lose the fuel, temp and battery gauges and the ABS, CEL and SIR lights come on. The tach and speedo still function.
I saw a similar thread to this but I figured I could shed dome light on this as well as get some other ideas of what it may be from people who have had this and got it repaired.
There is a TSB (technical service bullitin) that points to the ground pack under the front console (shifter area). High resistance in the ground can cause this problem. The procedure is to remove the console and carpet filler and clean the ground bolt and mounting hole with emery cloth. I have not done this yet, but plan to on tuesday. I will keep you posted.
If anyone has had this problem and had it repaired please post the repair procedure.

On a side note. I haven't been on this board for about 4 years (I re-registered under a new name), back then it was pretty active. I notice now that there are not many new posts. This was (and still is) an awesome sight for Blazer owners.

Hey Dace! Welcome back. The cleaning of the grounding point makes sense to me and condition of the grounds area common problem on many vehicles electric and electronic problems.

Hiya 4X4, good to see your still around. The TB went to the dealer (we bought it used from a Chrysler dealer when I bought my new Jeep), they sent it out to a GM dealership, apparently the IPC is bad. Makes sense since I had to replace the one in our '05 cavalier too.
